Got up early today and had some breakfast made by a neighbour who cooks meals for the guests staying at this house. Fresh fruit, pancakes, beans + rice, papaya and cheese. Great way to start the morning at 7:30. Then we headed off to go whitewater rafting on the Rio Pacuare river.
The Rio Pacuare has class II, III an IV rapids along it (the scale systems goes from 1 to 5) so 4 is fairly tough. The river is regarded as one of the top 5 rafting rivers in the world so I'd say a pretty decent spot to try whitewater rafting for the first
time.

Our house
Winding down some very steep, narrow, edgeless roads we arrived in about 20 minutes, the driver was very good though, glad we didn't have to drive that road on our own. Did a little orientation and then loaded up the boat with the guide, his helper and another person who lives in costa rica and was learning to be a guide. Another guide led out front in a neat small little kayak.
We started off with some class II and were soaked pretty much immediately, no falling out yet. You basically just sit on the edge of the raft, brace your feet and paddle whenever the guide in the back tells you. Everyones got a helmet on as there rocks everywhere.
On both sides of the river are fairly steep embankments(for the most part, aside from some camping/sleeping areas), which are completely covered in lush green vegetation. It was amazing, working in and out of the rapids, water spraying everywhere, sun beating down from above, and its tough to take your eyes off the vegetation/waterfalls that you pass by/under as you're cruising along. The water is moving along at a good rate so alot of time you'll go over a rapids and then just sit and look around for a few minutes as the river carries you down the smoother parts.

Ya, the pictures don't really go with the blog, but wanted to put up something since we didn't get any rafting pics :(
